Shweeb The Future Cities Transport Monorail?

What is the Shweeb?

It’s two interlocking overhead monorail race circuits from which hang highly efficient pedal-powered pods. You lie back in a recumbent position for maximum comfort and minimum aerodynamic drag. The hard wheels on the smooth track reduce rolling resistance, so you can click through the seven gears and get up to your top speed with very little effort.

The pods swing freely from left to right, so as your speed picks up you swing wildly around the corners and soar high and low over the undulating terrain. It’s a very dynamic ride that’s beyond comparison. There are two race tracks so you can race against your friends in either one-on-one or tandem races. You get to challenge the full spectrum of contenders – both local and international.

Shweebing is an all-weather activity - the clear pods protect you from the rain and the metal roof keeps the sun out.

Do you have what it takes? Feel the thrill rise through your feet as you experience a world first! The Shweeb will get your pulse racing as you compete against your family and friends or the clock to challenge the world record.

This thrilling and innovative riding experience takes you around a 200 metre track with scenic farm lands whizzing by as you power through 3 laps of the course with the potential to reach up to 45 kms per hour and 60 degree angles on the bends.

The Shweeb Inventor

Geoffrey Barnett grew up in the suburbs of Melbourne, Australia. Cycling and building things in the shed were his main hobbies. He rode a bike to school, to uni and never felt the need to own a car. When he graduated from uni with an arts degree, he went straight to Japan to work as an English teacher. Watching the near immobile traffic of Tokyo, he soon dreamed up the idea of cycling over the top of it!

He returned home to start working full time on designing a working prototype. As the months became years, his creativity, dedication and building skills were pushed to their limits. Finally, after six years of designing and testing, he had reached the point where he could let the public test ride the concept for them selves.

Having always loved travelling and the outdoors, Rotorua came as the natural choice for a place to showcase the technology. Geoff loves working in the adventure tourism industry and interacting with visitors from a huge diversity of cultures. He is dedicated to providing exceptional service and finds it very rewarding to talk face to face with his customers and get their reactions to this one-of-a-kind ride experience.

He and his family live on the lakeside with a thermal bath in the back yard where he takes the occasional break from developing and promoting the Shweeb. His ambitions are to realize his dream of Shweebing through a city, and to beat his best time of 1:02:8!
