IEI announced a fanless embedded computer with a dual-core Intel Atom D525 processor and redundant dual DC power input. The TANK-800-D525 is equipped with up to 2GB of DDR3 memory, offers two options for PCI and PCI Express expansion, provides gigabit Ethernet, USB 2.0, and serial connectivity, and offers both CompactFlash and 2.5-inch SATA storage.
The TANK-800-D525 shares its branding and dual-core, 1.8GHz Intel Atom D525 processor with the TANK-101B, which shipped in August. However, the latter was billed as a CAN-ready embedded controller, while the new TANK-800-D525 is more of a general purpose embedded computer -- best suited to the transportation industry, says IEI.
The TANK-800-D525 ships with 1GB of DDR3 on board, and offers a SODIMM slot for expanding the total to 2GB, says IEI. The computer also provides an externally accessible CompactFlash slot, plus an internal 2.5-inch bay for SATA devices, says the company.
The TANK-800-D525 is available in two different models with varying allotments of PCI and PCI Express slots. One version has a PCIe x4 slot and dual PCI slots, while the other provides single PCIe x1, PCIe x2, and PCI slots, according to IEI (see diagram below).

Dual gigabit Ethernet ports are provided along with four USB 2.0 ports and six serial ports, with two of them supporting RS-422/485 connections. A VGA port and audio I/O are also available.
The TANK-800-D525 is notable for its redundant dual DC power input (9 V to 36 V), which protects against shutdown and data loss due to power loss, according to IEI. In addition, software is available to make a full system backup on demand or recover the system by restoring to a previously made backup, says the company.

The 8.62 x 7.40 x 5.35-inch, extruded aluminum alloy system can run fanlessly, but a hot swappable fan module is available for ensuring reliable operation on systems with fully stocked PCI/PCIe slots, says the company. The computer is said to consume 33 Watts and support operating temperatures of -4 to 140 deg. F (-20 to 60 deg. C).Operating system support includes Windows 7, Windows XP Embedded, and Linux.
