Western Union was founded as The New York and Mississippi Valley Printing Telegraph Company in Rochester, New York in 1851 and in 1856 changed it’s name to Western Union Telegraph.
After almost 150 years of telegram service Western Union ceased it service as of January 27 2006, sending it’s last telegram on January 26 2006.
