Skycable Broadband 15 Day-Trial Free

I have internet connection back at home. I am on cable connection, Skycable's broadband connection. I got a little flyer in my mailbox and thought I'd read through it and what do you know it offers a 15-day trial. Good heavens! Free things still exist.

Skyvoice international calling from Skycable Philippines

The Philippines premier cable tv provider SkyCable, together with SkyBroadband, recently launched SkyVoice. With SkyVoice, you can call your family and relatives abroad for only Php0.44 to Php0.80.You can call your friends and family anytime in 21 countries such as United Kingdom, United States (except Alaska), Canada, Sweden, Switzerland, France, China, Germany, Hong Kong, Denmark, Mexico (Mexico City only), Israel, Netherlands, Norway, Australia, Portugal, Russia (Moscow and St. Petersburg only), Italy, Singapore, Spain and Taiwan.

How does it work?

You have to be a SkyBroadband subscriber with a minimum of 1 mbps package to avail of this service. SkyVoice uses the Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) network that lets you make international phone calls via your SkyBroadband connection. VoIP calls are lower-priced compared to traditional phone service, because the VoIP network’s equipment and maintenance costs much lower.

When you subscribe, SkyVoice service gives you an Analog Terminal Adaptor (ATA), a device that enables your SkyVoice calls to be routed via VoIP. The ATA is attached to your SkyBroadband connection and to your phone set. more info @ www.skyvoice.com.ph

Skycable Broadband 112Mbps the 'Fastest' Internet Connection in the Philippines

MANILA, Philippines - Lopez-owned Sky Cable Corp. has formally launched its 112 megabytes per second (mbps) broadband service, touted as the fastest Internet connection in the country.

This is a far cry from current offerings of local telecommunications firms of 1 to 2 mbps, and Sky Cable's own plans of 6 and 12 mbps.

"We are serious about providing the fastest Internet connection in the country. We want to continue to push the envelope," said Ray Montinola, Sky Cable's marketing head.

With an Internet connection of 112 mbps, one can download a 800-mb file in less than 2 minutes and watch 1080p high-definition videos online sans the buffering, Sky Cable said.

Smartbro Plan 999 Speedtest for Canopy Type

Two weeks ago, I posted about the Smartbro Plan 999 Review.

It was not a speedtest review, though- it was just a sort of short comparison between smartbro canopy type, the smartbro prepaid plug-it, and the experience with Globe Broadband.

But if you are interested of applying for Smartbro Plan 999 and a bit worried about the speed, you can take this speedtest review into consideration whether to choose Smartbro internet or the other internet service such that of Globe or Bayan Broadband.

I'll not be talking here about how to hack smartbro, but just an honest ISP review. So, here we go. The Plan 999 I'm talking is the canopy type, not the share-it. I'll make a separate review for that. The speedtest was taken in Cebu, particularly in Lapu-lapu area. I used two types of web browsers, the Google Chrome and Mozilla Firefox and I used both Speedtest.net and SKY Broadband services. All the necessary factors when performing the speed test were put into consideration such as clearing the DNS resolver cache, closing programs that utilize internet, and etc. It was done just to get a reasonable speedtest results.

Bayan Broadband Plan 512 Review

Just recently, Bayan Broadband started to offer a new wireless internet plan on their CMDA network starting at Php699 per month- a lower price compared to Globe and Smart.

The service utilize a USB dongle similar to Globe Tattoo or Smart Plug-It. But it's EVDO not 3G. (EVDO stands for Evolution-Data Optimized, a telecommunications standard for the wireless transmission of data through radio signals, typically for broadband Internet access).

NTC Allows Philippine Telcos Cap Broadband Data

The National Telecommunications Commission (NTC) passed a Memorandum Order (MO) that will allow internet broadband service providers to cap volume data per user per day.

In the said memorandum, the NTC requires internet service providers to specify the minimum broadband connection speed and service reliability against the service rates as seen on advertisements, flyers, brochures, and service and legal agreements. The revised memo however, would also allow the telecom companies to set a maximum volume of data a subscriber can use in a day.

Free Smart and Globe Internet Using Cell Phone as MoDem

Smart and Globe free mobile internet browsing is actually accomplished using an installed Opera Mini browser on mobile phones.

Free Browsing to All Networks is also possible.

Have you ever tried browsing the internet with a 3G MoDem? Probably, YES- but using the SmartBro 3G Wireless Kit from Smart Communications. How about using a 3G Cellular Phone? Probably, YES also using iPhone 3G- but of course with a flat rate. How about using your 3G Phone, but with your wallet shutoff? Ehhhmmm... Sounds like crazy, right? But since I am not that kind of person who keep on hiding tricks, maybe you are diverted into the right place.

I will try to share you this "HaK"- LOL, wrong spelling... You are going to have a free mobile internet access, not availing a promo but through the use of your 3G mobile phone and a few tweaks on your computer. In your setup, the phone acts as MoDem. The setup is applicable for both Smart and Globe.

NTC Broadband Capping Proposal Didn’t Push Through

Back in December last year, the National Telecommunications Commission or NTC, proposed a Memorandum Order on Minimum Broadband Speed, which contains a promulgated rule that addresses the ISP’s compliance of minimum broadband or internet speed being offered to its subscribers.

And another rule specified in the memo may require the ISP to set the maximum volume of data allowed per subscriber per day or what is known as broadband capping.

Sky Broadband’s 5Mbps for Php 999 Ain’t Bad

1Mpbs somehow could be the plan-of-choice by most broadband internet subscribers in the Philippines. For just Php 999 a month, one can get an unlimited internet connection quite enough for web surfing, video streaming, VoIP services, among others. If you’re a heavy user, you probably have noticed that sometimes your connection feel creepy, perhaps because your ISP is employing bandwidth throttling to minimize congestion of the network. But how about a 5Mbps data transfer speed just for the same price? Well, I think that’s something to consider whether it’s what you really want to suffice your internet needs.

Sky Broadband, SKYCable’s internet service, is now offering a new consumable plan with data speed of 5 Mbps just for Php 999. Basically, that’s five times faster than the usual 1 Mbps Plan from other ISP’s, yet stays just of the same price. The only catch here though, is the data cap of 15GB in a month. Broadband data capping here in the country remains a debatable issue that even our very own NTC dropped its proposal to include it on the memorandum order announced last year. But for Sky Broadband, it’s yet another choice of a faster, unlimited internet access.
