T-Mobile G2X finally receives Gingerbread today

One of the disappointing things about the T-Mobile G2X was the fact that the phone shipped with Android 2.2 Froyo and instead of Android 2.3 Gingerbread. Well, if you’re a T-Mobile G2X owner who’s been patiently waiting for the update we’ve got some good news for you. T-Mobile has just announced that the OTA update for Gingerbread starts rolling out today.

Samsung Galaxy S II: 5 million units sold

After announcing that it sold 3 million Galaxy S II phones earlier this month, Samsung has just announced that it has now hit the 5 million mark. The phone is now on its way to hitting 10 million, and it looks like it might be doing it earlier than its predecessor, the Galaxy S. The Galaxy S II took 85 days to reach the halfway mark, while the Galaxy S took 125 days. With over 56% of Korea’s phone market belonging to the S II, it’s a phone that’s been selling very well.

Google silently updates the Android Market

In case you haven’t noticed or received an update notification from Google yet – the Android Market app on your phone is due for an update. Google has silently pushed out an update for its app store that includes some significant changes. The bumping the app’s version up to 3.0.27, the update gives the Market an interface overhaul, and makes new content available.

Mystery Samsung Android device packs a WXGA screen

Waiting for an Android device from Samsung that features a high-res screen? You might be in for a treat. The folks over at T-Store, a Korean app market lists an unannounced Samsung device with the model number SHV-E120S in its Developer Center. You might ask, what’s so great about this unknown, mysterious device?

Sony Ericsson Xperia X10 doesn’t have Gingerbread yet

Earlier today, Sony Ericsson published an announcement on its regional sites saying that the Android Gingerbread update is ready to be downloaded for its Xperia X10 phones. But after many people tried to update their X10 phones and realized that there was no update (they received messages telling them that their phone was up to date) they figured something was wrong.

HTC Puccini Backside Revealed

Like the HTC Thunderbolt, the Motorola Droid Bionic has been suffering from a case of delay and no confirmed release date. With people waiting for the device ever since it was introduced at CES 2011 (which was way back in January), people are still holding out for the phone until now. Despite being spotted in Best Buy ads and the unverified Bionic Twitter account posting cryptic clues, we still don’t have a confirmed date yet.

HTC Puccini Backside Revealed

More photos of the first HTC 10″ tablet have surfaced at bgr (the first ones dated from May, it showed up at the FCC in July). We had already seen the AT&T logo on the upper right, so it seems that the device is bound to come out in the U.S market first. From the front, it doesn’t look much different from the Galaxy Tab 10.1 (which is not a bad thing!), but the back reveals a dual-LED 8 Megapixel camera, and what seems to be a 3-speaker system, which would make the sound better in both horizontal and vertical position.Earlier rumors mentioned a 4G LTE connectivity, but we have yet to see any LTE at AT&T. Hopefully, this is a sign that it will launch soon. Normally, tablet should have entered “volume production” in June, so a lunch should be imminent as the stockpile should be large enough with weeks.

Android Sound Box’s eyes look out of place

One of the most popular keyboards created for the Android platform has got to be Swype. Its intuitive interface, paired up with accurate error correction and low learning curve make it the keyboard of choice for a lot of people. There have been many challengers to the throne but none of them have managed to over throw it yet but it looks like the folks over at TouchPal have plans to change all that.

Android Sound Box’s eyes look out of place

Ever watched the Japanese superhero series Ultraman? Well, apart from the iconic signature finishing moves that the particular Ultraman uses to save Japan from intergalactic monstrosities, their bug eyes are another endearing facial feature. Well, the same can be said of this Android Sound Box, making your allegiance clear to everyone else in the office where mobile operating systems are concerned. Mom always said not to judge a book by its cover, so I will let those slanted bug eyes not, er, bug me, as I take you through the list of features after the jump.

It is interesting to note that this Sound Box is so simple, it actually bears no cables, which means it works over the Bluetooth spectrum. Changing tracks is a snap – just twist his head and you will be able to enjoy the track of your choice. Want to stop or play a paused track? Not a problem – just push down on his head.

Juicing him up is done via USB, so for those who remain at their work desks all day long, it might be a better idea to leave him connected throughout the time you are seated there.

T-Mobile G2 finally receives Gingerbread

T-Mobile subscribers who own the HTC G2 will be glad to know that after months of waiting, the Android 2.3 Gingerbread update has finally arrived! Which is strange, considering that the phone is running on stock Android, and last time I checked, it means faster updates (since there’s no custom skinning or modding of the OS involved). Regardless, it’s better late than never – at least the update is now here.

Dell Streak 10 Pro shown off in photograph

The Dell Streak 10 Pro was officially announced earlier in June, but since then there hasn’t been any news about it. Until recently, when a tipster decided to leak a photograph of the tablet posing next to the original Dell Streak and the Dell Streak 7. So if you’re wondering how big the Dell Streak 10 Pro is going to be – you have a pretty good idea of how it stacks up against Dell’s older tablets. Then again, you could always just hold another 10″ Android tablet on the market, it shouldn’t be too far off in terms of size.

Gingerbread officially released for the Sony Ericsson Xperia X10

After the false reports of Gingerbread arriving on the Sony Ericsson Xperia X10 a couple of days ago, it looks like rumors of the Friday release date have turned out to be true. Sony Ericsson has officially announced on its blog that the Android 2.3 Gingerbread update for the Xperia X10 is finally here. The update won’t be an OTA (over the air) update and has to be installed with a computer running SE’s PC companion software.

Gmail for Android updated to version 2.3.5

Gmail users on Android will be pleased to know that Google has released a new version of the app. The update brings Gmail on your Android device up to version 2.3.5 and has some new features to improve your Gmail experience. One of the best new features of 2.3.5 is the ability to select label specific notifications.

Amazon Android tablets reported to be in production

Amazon’s worst kept “secret” – the Android tablet – has been on everybody’s lips for awhile now and with summer already underway, we’re getting closer to the predicted August to October release date of the tablet. And now, according to the latest reports from DigiTimes, suppliers are seeing their sales “move up vigorously in the third quarter of 2011 due to their shipments of IC parts to the supply chain for Amazon’s 7- and 10-inch tablet PCs to be launched in the quarter”.

Sony Alpha A850 most likely discontinued

Word on the street has it that Sony’s flagship Alpha A850 SLR camera might just reach the end of the road, as B&H Photo has already posted a notice alongside the camera that “this item has been discontinued by the manufacturer and is no longer available.” In addition, the A850 also cannot be found on sale on the SonyStyle site, so if the manufacturer does not even carry said piece of hardware, could B&H Photo’s claim be true?

Sigma SD1 flagship DSLR unveiled

Sigma is a name that serious shutterbugs know when it comes to high end cameras, and for the company’s DSLR, the SD1 will be their new flagship. First introduced last summer, Sigma has certainly taken their time to roll it out to the masses – some say that’s because they want to make sure that everything is fine and dandy. Now with the Sigma SD1, you are able to shoot whopping 46-megapixel images thanks to its sensor inside that has a trio of layers, with each of them rated at 15.4 megapixels. The SD1 is the only shooter around that relies on Foveon’s 23.5×15.7mm APS-C X3 direct image sensor.
