MANILA, Philippines--SkyCable Corp. is hoping to boost the take-up of its VoIP (voice-over-Internet Protocol) offering through a package that is significantly cheaper than existing programs, company officials said.
SkyCable’s Plan 100, to be available starting Aug. 1, gives subscribers 100 minutes of free calls to the United States and Canada and charges P99 a month, inclusive of value-added tax, said Rodrigo Montinola, vice president for marketing and head of the company’s prepaid business unit.
Existing package variants range from Plan 1000 to Plan 2500. Plan 1000 is priced at P799 a month for 1,000 free call minutes to the United States (except Alaska and Hawaii). At the other end of the service menu is the Plan 2500 with 2,500 minutes of free calls to various countries including the United States and Canada, for P1,699 a month.
All SkyVoice plans have fixed monthly rates in pesos so subscribers do not have to worry about fluctuating dollar rates, Montinola said.
Sales division head Bong de Guzman said the company was targeting overseas Filipino workers’ families and home business owners as the main market for SkyVoice, which rides on the cable broadband connection of the company’s ZPDee brand.
SkyVoice can also be bundled with SkyCable, in which case the VoIP subscriber will get a 20-percent discount on the SkyCable bill.
“Initially, about 10,000 subscribers of SkyInternet (ZPDee) can readily get SkyVoice,” De Guzman said.
The next phase of growth may come from the SkyCable family’s cable subscribers, who number about 500,000 nationwide (including Home Cable and Pilipino Cable subscribers), he said.
