Sony Ericsson Xperia Play Now $100 on Verizon Wireless

Sony Ericsson has been in the smartphone game for quite some time with many different smartphones and other handsets that have seen varying levels of success. However, upon entering the Android smartphone market they were largely left in the dust due to a high level of innovation by competing manufacturers. This is not to say that Sony Ericsson hasn’t done anything over the years as the Xperia X10 has seen a largely dedicated community supporting it despite being released nearly a year ago.

Now a days is largely different as Sony Ericsson has kicked their top notch smartphone production into high gear. One device that you may be familiar with from Sony Ericsson that has been causing waves is none other than the Xperia Arc catering to the typical smartphone market. However, Sony Ericsson also has another Android powered smarpthone that is catered towards a much more specific niche with the Xperia Play.

If you’re not familiar with the Xperia Play it features a 4-inch touchscreen display with 854 x 480 resolution, 1GHz Snapdragon processor, 512MB of RAM, 400MB of internal storage with microSD slot for an additional 32GB of storage, 5.1 megapixel rear facing camera and VGA Front facing camera. Other than the fact that it’s running the latest Android ‘Gingerbread’ 2.3 one may think, at first blush, that the Xperia Play is not much different than a device that was released nearly a year ago. However, the similarities end there as the Xperia Play features a slide-out gamepad featuring the iconic PlayStation face buttons, a d-pad and even dual touch sensitive joysticks. Add to that the two shoulder buttons and you have device perfect for hardcore gamers on the go.

Of course, if you’ve been paying attention you probably know all of that but what you may not have known is the fact that the Xperia Play has just seen its price tag cut to just $100 with 2-year contract on Verizon Wireless. What are you waiting for? If you’re a gamer you really can’t go wrong with the Sony Ericsson Xperia Play.
