Smart Communications recently introduced Long Term Evolution (LTE) mobile broadband technology, touted as the fastest in the world today. This technology is also popularly referred to as 4G, or the fourth-generation mobile phone technology.
According to Smart, it’s current LTE is currently delivering download and upload speeds of up to 50Mbps and will be raised up to 100Mbps in the future.
I cannot wait to experience 100Mbps internet speed on my smartphone! With such speed, you can download a movie in minutes and can view high-definition video without the hiccups.
Smart’s LTE service will be available in Boracay this Holy Week and will soon be rolled out to other areas. LTE data services can currently be accessed using USB dongles or via LTE-powered wireless routers providing WiFi coverage.
According to Smart’s press release statement, the main advantages of LTE are high throughput, low latency, an improved end-user experience and a simple architecture resulting in low operating costs. LTE is also backward-compatible with existing GSM, 3G and HSPA networks. This enables mobile operators deploying LTE to provide a seamless service across their LTE and previously deployed networks.
Globe Telecom has also recently made a separate 4G service announcement.
